Elizabeth II, born on April 21, 1926, in London, England, passed away on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. She reigned as the queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from February 6, 1952, to her death. In 2015, she became the longest-serving British monarch, surpassing Queen Victoria’s record.

Elizabeth, the firstborn child of Prince Albert, Duke of York, and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, was not initially in direct line for the throne. However, following the abdication of her uncle, Edward VIII (later known as the Duke of Windsor), in favor of her father on December 11, 1936, her father ascended as King George VI, making Elizabeth the next in line. Her education was managed by her mother, who appointed Marion Crawford as her governess. She also received lessons in history from C.H.K. Marten, future provost of Eton College, and was tutored in music and languages by various instructors. During World War II, Elizabeth, along with her sister Princess Margaret Rose, stayed mostly at Balmoral Castle, the Royal Lodge, and Windsor Castle, away from wartime London, for their safety.
