In 1956, her path crossed with Ike Turner at a performance by his band, the Kings of Rhythm, leading to her joining the group. As Tina Turner, she soon became the standout performer in the ensemble, which evolved into the Ike and Tina Turner Revue.

The group initially faced challenges but gained prominence with the 1960 hit single “A Fool in Love,” followed by a string of successful releases. Tina and Ike Turner’s personal relationship, culminating in a controversial marriage in 1962, was marred by legal disputes and allegations of abuse and infidelity, leading to their divorce in 1977.

Their collaboration produced memorable hits, including the Phil Spector-produced “River Deep—Mountain High” (1966), popular in Europe, and covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary” (1971) and “Nutbush City Limits” (1973). The duo’s partnership ended with their divorce in 1978, paving the way for Tina Turner’s thriving solo career.
